August’s Hottest New Beauty Products
You'd be forgiven for assuming that August might be a quiet month...but the following launches prove that the beauty world never rests. From the lip gloss that redefines shine to the foundation-skincare hybrid tailored to the modern-day individual, dive into our curated list to find your next beauty staple.
The Viral Lip Product: Refy Lip Gloss £16

Founders Jess Hunt and Jenna Meek know a thing or two about launching sell-out products: their Brow Sculpt rocketed Refy to one of the most talked-about brands overnight. With lip gloss making a dazzling comeback, Refy is here to prove that they can do it all over again with their new high-shine glosses.

Comprising a clear version plus six sheer shades that range from oh-so-subtle fleshy pinks to more intense washes of colour, whether you’re in the mood for a nude lip or a bold statement pout, Refy has got you covered.

But unlike the glosses of the 90s that are behind this trend, it’s not just about the shades; Refy’s vegan, Hyaluronic Acid and Jojoba Oil formula also impresses, offering a glass-like shine with balm-like benefits, ensuring a non-sticky finish and super-hydrating feel. We also adore the cooling metal-tip applicator, which provides a dreamy, refreshing way to apply it. Like the rest of the Refy range, they’re sure to become a sell-out must-have.

The Sunscreen-Skincare Dream: Ultra Violette Fave Fluid SPF 50+ Ultralight Skinscreen £37

Renowned for their ultra-wearable SPFs, Australian brand Ultra Violette’s new Fave Fluid confirms the brand’s desire to make consumers totally rethink sun protection.

This is their thinnest formula to date – which is saying something given the serum-like texture of best-sellers like Queen Screen (an all-time favourite here at Destino that’s currently being reformulated for a 2024 comeback). Though Fave Fluid is thinner than most, it still offers the same formidable protection you’d expect against UV rays but thanks to clever formulation, it also doubles up as an equally impressive skincare product. Infused with skin-loving ingredients like Niacinamide and Vitamins C and E, it means you can tick off your skincare needs at the same time as shielding your skin from the sun. Because it’s so lightweight, it is easily absorbed and leaves no ashy residue. If you’re looking for a new way to seamlessly incorporate SPF and a host of skincare benefits into your routine, look no further.

The New Classic: Jo Malone London's English Pear & Sweet Pea, £118

Jo Malone London, known for its timeless fragrances, is making waves with a celebration of the beloved pear.

Taking its cues from one of their best-selling staple scents, English Pear & Freesia, the brand has launched a special-edition cologne. The fluted bottle design adds a touch of elegance to an already classic scent, and a curated collection of complementing products including a beautiful limited edition candle complete the lineup.

But that’s not all. In a thrilling move, Jo Malone London is introducing a new partner fragrance: English Pear & Sweet Pea. A fresh twist on the cherished pear scent, it celebrates sun-warmed orchards springing to life with tempting green pears filling the branches. The lush fruits are swathed in the soft, pastel scent of sweet peas, all resting on a base of powdery white musk. The result is a garden-fresh, light floral fragrance, which marries fruits and flowers in a delightful new union.

What’s more, Jo Malone London has committed to sustainability by using a 100% natural pear fruit extract, an upcycled ingredient that is a by-product of the food industry. Each bottle contains the equivalent of one pear, allowing you to indulge while also making an environmentally-conscious choice. It’s the perfect fresh scent to see you into Autumn.

The Foundation Of The Year: Glossier Stretch Fluid Foundation, £34
glossier.com

We’re calling it, even though it’s only August: this is the foundation launch of the year.

It may come as a surprise to many that a beauty brand as influential as Glossier waited so long to launch its own foundation. This delay was, of course, deliberate: the brand, committed to its philosophy of perfecting products that celebrate real skin, instead invested years in research, testing, and refinement. The result is a foundation that still celebrates skin first – with a formula comprising 11% coverage and 89% skincare.

Like the best-selling Stretch Balm Concealer, the Stretch Fluid Foundation is therefore enriched with skincare. For the foundation this means Squalane and Glycerin have been added to nourish skin, while Wild Rose Berry is there to prevent excess shine. There are also amino-acid coated pigments, allowing the foundation to flex with facial movements, blur imperfections, and leave behind a breathable, dewy finish reminiscent of healthy, hydrated skin.

But the innovation doesn’t stop at the formula. Their new Stretch Face Brush (£28), is equally impressive and has already made a permanent home for itself in our makeup bag. Designed for seamless application, it’s a densely-packed curved brush that ensures even distribution, optimal coverage, and minimises wastage. Its ergonomic  shape is tailored to access those hard-to-reach areas, achieving a flawless finish every time. We also love the fact that you can twist it back in so its kept clean in your makeup bag.

Both launch this week and the foundation is available in 32 shades.

Brow Lamination In A Bottle: Rare Beauty Brow Harmony Flexible Lifting Gel, £18

If you’ve been keeping up with Selena Gomez on Instagram, you’ve likely seen her showcasing the transformative powers of the new Rare Beauty Brow Harmony Flexible Lifting Gel. Touted to rival the best brow lamination treatments, this meticulously crafted gel uplifts brows to their full potential, sculpting, smoothing, and defining each hair for a brushed-up, laminated look that lasts all day.

Rest assured with its waterproof properties that stand up to sweat and natural oils. The gel’s pièce de résistance is its thoughtfully tapered brush — a harmonious blend of soft and firm bristles — adept at catching every brow hair, whether thick or thin, from root to tip. Consider it an essential addition to your beauty regimen.
