Depleted Energy (Qi)
Symptoms: Tiredness, fatigue, feeling cold, bloated after eating, frequent colds, weak immune system.
Western Diagnosis: Low blood pressure, under-active thyroid, chronic fatigue syndrome.
Fix It By: Eating cooked foods that are organic and of strong energy such as root vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, potatoes, beets, celeriac, parsnips and ginger. To get all of the benefits make sure that the roots are cooked (baked, boiled, roasted or sauteed) and eat at least one portion, roughly a hand full, a day!
Avoid: Cold foods & drinks, excessive workouts.
Stuck Energy (Qi Stagnation)
Symptoms: PMS, mood changes, period cramps with blood clots, headaches, irritability, anxiety, depression.
Western Diagnosis: Endometriosis, PCOS, migraine, IBS, depression, thyroid issues, cysts, fibroids.
Fix It By: Doing vigorous exercise outdoors, deep breathing, eating soothing and cooling foods with astringent (bitter/sour flavour) flavours like Cucumber, Celery, Parsley, Spirulina, Broccoli, Spinach, Swiss Chard, Onions, Garlic, Watercress, Asparagus and Bitter Greens (including Dandelion, Kale, Mustard, Escarole & Radicchio). it’s more about the continuity than amounts, so it’s really vital to make it part of your daily routine and incorporate these foods into your diet. If your digestion is strong opt for salads, smoothies and raw foods, but if your digestion is weak also make sure you warm these ingredients first to help relieve stagnation comfortably with soups, steamed vegetables and stews.
