One of our favourite recent discoveries is The Westin London City, which opened just over a year ago. Their sumptuous spa includes a beautiful pool surrounded by double day-beds, sauna, steam room, fully equipped gym and some seriously blissful treatments.

Book to stay the night, or visit for the day. Their day spa voucher offering is brilliant value – for £150 you get a delicious, healthy two course lunch at their restaurant, a dreamy 60 minute facial and massage treatment and access to the spa for the day (including the gym). Take our advice and treat yourself to a trip too and turn it into a day-break for the two of you.

Whether the man in your life regularly takes himself off for wet-shaves or is someone who doesn’t usually indulge themselves, a Murdock treatment will always be a winner.

They’ve taken all of the rituals of traditional wet shaves – the gloriously hot towels, the smoothest shaves ever and heavenly products and put them in more modern, chic barbershops, meaning that a trip here will appeal to both traditionalists and those who favour a modern spin. Murdock now have three branches in London (and one in Manhattan if you fancy a trip across the pond), so finding a location to suit shouldn’t be an issue. We love the little extras they throw in too – the extra-comfortable chairs, the offer of whisky or a shoe shine and their brilliant range of products that mean you can keep up their good work at home.

If you’re looking for something truly different, head to AIRE Ancient Baths. Tucked away behind the strand and taking up the cavernous former home (and cellars) of author J.M. Barrie, AIRE have brought the ancient Roman bathing ritual to the UK with a modern flair.

Upon entering you quickly forget that you’re in a City at all – calming music floats from the subterranean baths below and attentive staff show you the way in hushed tones. There’s a series of 7 different pools, including the Tepidarium (36ºc), Caldarium (40°c), Frigidarium (14ºC and 10ºC), Vaporium (a steam room scented with Peppermint), Balneum (a “Thousand Jet” bath) – and finally the Flotarium, containing salt water akin to the Dead Sea, allowing you to float in peace. All are dimly lit with lanterns and Romanesque-style music, making it almost impossible not to switch off.  You emerge feeling detoxed and renewed, plus they always limit the number of people so that you’re also likely to have most of the baths to yourself, which adds an extra layer of luxury and relaxation.

Upstairs are the treatment rooms, where you can choose from an array of massages and scrubs, including their new Love Constellations treatment, which has launched in time for this Valentine’s Day but a little birdie has told us will be a permanent new treatment. While you can book to just use the baths, it’s definitely worth booking a treatment too as they all include 2 hours worth of access to the baths.

Sometimes the best presents are when you get given the little pampering things that you may not always treat yourself to. Enter Townhouse, arguably London’s most in-demand nail destination.

They’ve expanded rapidly and now have a whopping ten locations to choose from. Whether you head to the latest, Kings Road, their smallest – Notting Hill’s Petite Townhouse or tie in a visit to their spot in The House of Elemis, one thing is certain – a long-lasting, insta-worthy manicure of pedicure.
