Our Favourite Product Launches of 2022
Since it's December, we've decided to mix it up this month and highlight our five favourite new launches of the year. The key criteria? Each must have debuted in the UK during 2022 AND have made it into our own routines. It's been a tough choice - with an initial shortlist of over sixty products - but *drumroll* the winners are...
The Fragrance: Edeniste

There have been some stellar scent launches this year but a standout was wellbeing fragrance brand, Edeniste.

After almost 20 years of running a luxury events company, founder Audrey Semeraro “always noticed the positive effect that scent had on my guests when setting the mood for events,” she shares. “I spent the last four years with neuroscientists analysing the impact of fragrances on the structure and function of the brain, nervous system and related body responses. Which was how Edeniste was born: the first fine perfume collection with active molecules, offering a ‘psycho-physiological effect’ – put simply, an experience of greater wellbeing through fragrance.”

The magic behind the scents stems from some impressive molecules heroed for their mood-boosting powers. “Developed with world-renowned neuroscientists and perfumer Aurélien Guichard, we have singled out the olfactive molecules that have a proven impact on an individual’s olfactory pathways and limbic system,” shares Audrey. These form the backbone of the “Destress” accord (a combination of scents that forms the soul of a fragrance). In this instance, it’s a dry, woody and musky scent, thanks to Iso E Super, Ambroxan, white musks and cedarwood extract and it can be found at the heart of all six of their eaux de parfums. “It has been scientifically proven to control and reduce psychological and physiological stress to help regulate your mood,” Audrey explains.

The brand has gone a step further though and each of the eaux de parfum are designed to be layered with any of the six Lifeboost essences, which bear names such as ‘Energy’, ‘Relax’, ‘Seduction‘ and ‘Wellbeing’. The brand implores you to spray on your chosen boost and take three deep breaths to help invoke your selected emotion. “I called these revolutionary active essences ‘Lifeboost’ because they boost your life at any moment you may need during your day.”

The result is the ability to tailor your fragrance directly to your mood (or perhaps more importantly, your desired mood).  It’s also a range that in our opinion doesn’t have any weak links – all of the fragrances are a delight and whether you like deeper scents like Oud Mystique, more gourmand notes like Vanille Irrésistible or favour lighter, brighter perfumes like Vétiver Imaginaire, we defy you not to find one that you love. They also do two discovery sets, so if you’d prefer you can mix and match until you find your perfect duo.

The Skincare: KLIRA

KLIRA is the brainchild of renowned dermatologist and the current President of the British Cosmetic Dermatology Group, Dr Emma Craythorne. At the launch in September, it felt like she was giving away top-secret industry intel – busting myths and explaining why she became so frustrated at the widespread waste and mis-selling of skincare, that she decided to come up with a way of scaling the advice she was giving to patients in her clinic by devising one essential cream.

Once you’ve filled out an incredibly detailed skin questionnaire and submitted images of your skin up-close, you are given your “skinsize” (a much more accurate description than the ubiquitous skin type) and a few days later your bespoke prescription-strength cream – The KLIRA Special – arrives.

“Despite all the hype around wonder ingredients, there are only a handful that actually have the power to change your skin. And even then, the ingredients alone aren’t enough,” Craythorne explains. “By decoding your skin with our online consultation and then delivering a tailored routine and formula that is not only blended to ensure maximum absorption and efficacy – but gorgeous to use, we can reveal your best ever skin. No hype, just results.”

Containing only powerhouse ingredients that are clinically proven to work, The KLIRA Special is a cream that goes up in strength slightly each month to avoid any pesky breakouts or dryness that prescription-strength creams can cause. There’s also a team of dermatologists on-hand if ever you need to talk to them and they give you tailored product suggestions for things like cleansers and SPFs to use alongside. Whether you struggle with breakouts, or are worried about premature ageing, the result is, quite simply, better skin.

The SPF: Ultra Violette Daydream Screen SPF50 Tinted Veil

We’ll always have a soft spot for a brand that specialises in just one thing and then does it really, really well. Like Ultra Violette, who offer a considered edit of sunscreens catering to different skin types and preferences (their Queen Screen has become our go-to daily staple), so it was with much excitement that they launched their Daydream Screen during the heat of the UK summer. Designed to be applied over an SPF, it’s a tinted serum with the added benefit of SPF 50, that you can build from the sheerest, most natural of finishes to medium coverage, and its oil-free formula means you don’t have to worry about having to powder every half hour. Available in a range of shades, it’s easy to apply and creates a radiant, lightly perfected complexion – pretty much everything we want in an everyday base.

The Makeup: Rare Beauty

The celebrity beauty brand market is big business; it’s hard work keeping up with the plethora of stars founding their own lines, admittedly to varying degrees of success. But Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty has proved an indisputable triumph: a selection of fairly-priced products (everything comes in at under £30) that are easy to apply and wear, aimed at creating a fresh-faced, ‘it’s all natural’ flush of beauty – and finally this year it launched in the UK.

We’d suggest you test out their best-selling Soft Pinch Liquid Blush: providing a pretty, soft-focus wash of colour, it’s a viral hit on TikTok – and one of the rare ones that actually lives up to the hype, creating a pretty wash of colour that you’d swear was your natural blush.

The Haircare: K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask

Slated as the new Olaplex, it’s fair to say that post its UK launch in June K18’s Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask is currently having a moment. It was also named by the lusciously-locked Hailey Bieber as her “favourite hair product right now”. Based around the brand’s patented K18 peptide, the mask repairs hair bonds that have been damaged by colouring, heat and all manner of hair sins from the inside-out, for softer and shinier hair. Per ML, it’s pricier than Olaplex, but you use less of it each time and a little really does go a long way. So no matter the seriousness of your hot tool addiction, you can expect better elasticity and restored strength and shine.
