Trend Watch: Lip Nourishing Oils & Tints
Bridging skincare and make-up, a host of 2022's lip launches supply the best that both worlds have to offer: a blissful hit of hydration with pretty colour. And with the notoriously dehydrating cold weather setting in, they look set to be one of the biggest beauty trends this winter. Here are five that we love.
Hermès Hermèsistible Infused Care Oil

These ultra-luxurious lip oils make for a multi-sensorial experience: each of the six shades boasts a unique scent inspired by its colour, masterminded by Hermès’s in-house perfumer Christine Nagel. Our go-tos include Corail Bigarade, a cheery coral hue with a moreish Seville orange scent and red-toned, cherry-scented Rouge Amarelle.

Jones Road The Lip Tint

These lip tints launched earlier this summer and have been sellout hits for make-up artist Bobbi Brown’s new line, Jones Road. It’s the closest thing the brand has to a lipstick, but as you can expect from Bobbi, it provides a relaxed and healthy-looking wash of colour, as opposed to anything too fussy or formal. How strong you want the lip tint to look can easily be adjusted, thanks to the buildable formula and for just the sheerest swipe of colour, it’s a cinch to apply – no mirror needed.

Typology Tinted Lip Oil

If you’re not already acquainted, chic Parisian brand Typology are renowned for their line of simplified yet effective skincare products, each housed in satisfying minimalist packaging. These lip oils lean more into the skincare/lip balm category, containing a blend of deeply nourishing jojoba oil, squalane and vitamin E and come housed in the brands signature bottles that look more like nail polishes than make-up. For balm enthusiasts, you’ll love the untinted version, which is wonderful for use before bed and can be layered on top of any lip colour for an extra dose of conditioning. While those looking to save time, the four tinted shades offer everything from a wearable juicy red to a subtle nude-rose.

Vieve Lip Dew

Lovers of a high-shine lip gloss will fall for the Lip Dew from Vieve, the brainchild of Scottish make-up artist and influencer Jamie Genevieve. Available in four shades (including our favourite, Original, which is clear but flecked with gold), they are ultra-glossy as well as beneficial to the pout, thanks to raspberry seed extract oil and vitamin E. They can be worn either by themselves or can top a lip liner or matte lipstick to dial up the glamour.

Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm

Hourglass’s offering provides a finish more akin to a balm than an oil and features a conditioning complex rich in oils to nurture parched lips. As can be expected from Hourglass, you can choose from a spectrum of gorgeous colours, from an everyday pretty pink like Mist to Lure, a vampy deep plum. We love its twist-up format, which seamlessly combines convenience and elegance.
