Destino Says...
The great-grandaddy of barbershops, Truefitt & Hill was established in 1805 and is officially recognised by the Guiness World Record Book as the world’s oldest barbershop. Their client list reads like a Who’s Who of how to be a gentleman – not only have they served nearly all male members of the royal family since George III in the 1800s but Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde, Alfred Hitchcock, Laurence Olivier, Cary Grant, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra have all sat in their resplendent chairs.
Today, such is the pull of the Truefitt & Hill brand that stores have opened across the world selling their hugely successful range of 140 grooming products. But for true authenticity, nothing beats a visit to their St. James’s home. A cut, shave or treatment (their manicures here are just the right manly mix of buffing and filing) is quite the experience, with everything strictly done by blade and scissors – there are no buzz cutters here. For the men in your life, their products and gift certificates go down a treat for birthdays, Father’s Day and Christmas.
