The first ever Equinox opened in New York in 1991 and since then they have become the gold-standard benchmark for ultra-luxury gyms worldwide. This is thanks to their high-end finishes, cutting edge classes and membership perks. They have an avid and extremely fit army of global fans including celebrities and ex-Presidents (Obama trains with them).
Expansion has been extensive (they now have gyms across the US, Canada and London) but extremely selective, with the first outpost outside of the States only opening in London in 2012. More recently, a Bishopsgate location and another in St James have opened to much fanfare, alongside the first Equinox Hotel in New York.
Equinox prides itself on having the best and latest equipment (it’s one of the few places you can reap the rewards of an anti-gravity running machine) and specialist studios including boxing, pilates, cycling and yoga, so that clients can explore every type of exercise under one roof. Each club becomes a home-from-home for members with benefits like the crèche (from 3 months to 12 at Kensington only), spa, eucalyptus steam room, laundry service and cafe all combining to make Equinox so much more than a place to work out.
