Destino Says...
There was a complete dearth of boutique gyms in East London until BLOK stormed onto the scene in 2016. Their initial Clapton studio is housed in an old warehouse, so has a decidedly New York loft meets high-end gym vibe, while their Shoreditch outpost is a slick urban offering in a Norman Foster designed building. Most recently, they’ve opened a Manchester studio in the ultra fashionable Ducie Street Warehouse.
Classes are reasonably priced compared to most other class-only gyms of this calibre (starting from £9) and they’re also plentiful: running throughout the day so you’ll never have the annoyance of missing the morning slots and having to wait until post-work. There are over 400 classes a week split into 30 class types, which range from the standard (circuits, HIIT, boxing) to the more unique (BlOKBREATH focuses just on breathing, while HANDSTAND helps you finally master the tricky pose) and Yoga here particularly stands-out according to our yogis in the know. All of them aim to build skills as well as improve fitness, which is another aspect that marks out BLOK from its competitors.
They also pride themselves on their food offering, with café-come-galleries in both London locations serving up amazing food and drinks, making it the perfect place to stay and do some work after a class.
