Destination: Belmond & Dior Partner In Portofino

As partnerships go, this one takes some usurping: luxury hospitality and leisure company Belmond have partnered with Dior to create a pop-up spa at one of their most magnificent locations, Splendido, Portofino. Until September 30th, the hotel’s soothing gardens will be host to two Dior spa cabanas, dubbed Jardin des Rêves Dior (“Garden of Dreams”) that overlook Portofino Bay and one of the most exclusive beaches on the Italian Riviera, Bagni Fiore. Decked out in a new variation of Dior’s beloved Toile de Jouy fabric designed by Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, the cabanas feel like part of the lush landscape and guests can select from a range of Dior face and body treatments, including their new Dior Bronze Signature Massage, a sublime experience that rehydrates sun-exposed skin and helps repair sun damage. Afterwards, you can relax by the shores of Bagni Fiori at the Dior Beach Club and browse in the Dior concept store, where they’ve created a special limited version of their Escale à Portofino called the ‘Splendido Edition’ just for the occasion. La dolce vita indeed!

Treatment: Glow Lights At John Frieda Salons
@nicolaclarkecolour

When the queen of colour and John Frieda Salons Creative Colour Director, Nicola Clarke and John Frieda Salons Creative Director Zoe Irwin, create a new highlighting technique, there’s palpable excitement. “Glow lights are very different from a traditional highlight or balayage,” Clarke explains. “Looking at the beauty world’s obsession with glow, we also wanted to launch a glow-to-go service alongside Glow Lights that uses different glazes to add shine and dimension.”

Long-term client Kate Moss is the muse – she sported freshly done Glow Lights when she took the (virtual) deposition stand in the Johnny Depp case. “I wanted her to radiate that summer look that you get when you’ve been on holiday. I’ve been playing with colours and making it like a glow. The result is like you’ve got a ring light on you at all times.

“It’s not just a case of adding face-framing money pieces. Instead we play with lowlights or a client’s natural hair colour because dimension is key,” explains Irwin.  “When you have light it has to be resting on a shadow tone. If someone asks to be more blonde, you don’t need to actually add more blonde , you need to add shadow. This sounds scary to blondes but if you add that shadow and light in the right place it gives amazing dimension. Plus people now want to embrace their natural colour a bit and use it so that their colour is lower maintenance. Its not as raw as a beachy, surfer tone, it’s a chicer mixture of beige and golden tones against something ashier.

The key to maintaining the shine? Six-weekly gloss treatments in-between colour appointments. The best news? “You absolutely do not have to be blonde to get the glow effect,” chime both Clarke and Irwin. “You can add tiny amounts of balayage around the front to give that glow on red and brunettes. It really is a glow-up for everyone.”

Prices start from £230 for Glow Lights and Glow to Go from £125 (including blow dry)Available at Nicola Clarke at John Frieda Salons: 58-59 Margaret Street, W1W 8SN and John Frieda Salons:4 Aldford St. Mayfair, W1K 2AE

Destination: Pilates by Bryony
@bryonydeery

Bryony Deery has had a meteoric rise into the mat pilates realm. Having practised pilates since being in a road accident at the age of 17 and fresh from doing her teacher-training, she began holding small group classes online in the middle of last year, with word quickly spreading that her technique (and own eye-popping abs) garnered impressive results quickly. Her January challenge saw more than 400 people sign up to take part, with celebrities including Rosie Fortescue, Rochelle Humes and David Walliams all regularly attributing their lean limbs to her method.

Fast forward to July and Bryony now has her own platform, Pilates by Bryony, which grants you access to an impressive array of workouts and regular live classes and challenges (you can access it online or via her dedicated app that’s just launched). But the final piece of the puzzle is being able to see Bryony (and now her team of trainers) IRL. That day has finally come thanks to her new mat pilates studio space in Urban Retreat, Knightsbridge that opened this month. While you’ll need a referral to train with her (email for details) anyone can go ahead and book into one of the small group classes with her other trainers. With grey-washed floors and chicly branded accessories from interiors company Terre Interiors, this is sure to become one of West-London’s go-to mat pilates spots.
